Richard Ruffkess

(1909-1983)
Inducted into the Jewish Sports Hall of Fame, 1997

A lifelong resident of the Hartford area, Ruffkess graduated from Weaver High School in 1926 and from the University of Connecticut in 1930. He played baseball and football in both high school and college and was co-captain of the University of Connecticut football team in 1930. At Weaver he was captain of the swim team and co-captain of the football team.

He played baseball in the Hartford Industrial League, representing G. Fox & Company. An avid golfer, he won many tournaments at the Rockledge Golf Course, including the Father-Son Tournament with his son Martin in 1971.
