Gerald “Jerry” Roisman

Roisman graduated from Weaver High School in 1955. He was on the basketball team for three years, and in his senior year was co-captain of the team. In 1954, the basketball team won the state championship, becoming the first high school in Hartford to do so. He also lettered in golf at Weaver.

He continued his education at Amherst College and then graduated from the University of Connecticut Law School in 1962, when he was admitted to the bar. Specializing in family law, he was a founding member of the American Academy of Family Trial Lawyers and created a fellowship in family law at the University of Connecticut’s School of Law. He also belonged to the Sports Lawyer Association and represented sports figures including golfer Charlie Sifford and basketball coach Jim Calhoun.

Roisman coached Little League baseball and basketball and was a co-owner of the Farmington Valley Racquet Club as well as other businesses. He served on the West Hartford Board of Education and was special alternate to the Town Council as counsel to the Democratic Town Committee. In Simsbury, he was a member of the Industrial Development Commission and a member of the Democratic Town Committee as well as a Justice of the Peace.
