According to several of his teachers and coaches, Issaac Mahler has a personal character that’s as impressive—in many ways even more so—than his athletic ability as a runner. That ability, though, is not easily downplayed. Isaac is a varsity athlete whose accomplishments on the track have frequently been highlighted in the local media. He has developed his skill to be one of the top-ranked distance runners in the state of Connecticut and throughout New England. Most recently he was the Connecticut State Open Champion for the 3,200-meter and the New England Championship runner-up in cross country. He is one of the exclusive few who have achieved all state, all-New England, and all-American status as a runner.
With an unassailable ethic on the track and off, Issac has proven to be a worthy role model for his peers, frequently cited by his mentors as a young man who effortlessly demonstrates the kind of attitude and behavior they favor from all their young charges. Isaac indicated that he would continue to run competitively after high school as a member of the Division I men’s cross-country and track teams at Boston University.
At Hall High School, West Hartford, CT his skills extended beyond the track. He has been a top competitor on the school’s mock trial team and has tutored a Ukrainian student through the online program called ENGin, which fosters English-language connections across borders to help change and improve lives. Teachers note how he consistently seeks a deeper understanding of academic concepts by asking questions, independently researching topics of interest and helping to create a vibrant learning environment wherever he is.
