Our Story

The Jewish Historical Society of Greater Hartford (JHSGH) collects, protects and shares materials that document the Greater Hartford Jewish community. Through an array of publications, exhibitions and partnerships, we tell the stories of Jewish life, culture and contributions to Connecticut, the United States and beyond.

Founded in 1971, JHSGH has grown from an attic closet to a respected community archive.

We are a donor-supported organization and a beneficiary agency of the Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford and the Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Hartford.

Amanda Widom, MLIS

Amanda earned her Master of Library and Information Science from the University of South Florida and brings experience in digital archives, collection processing, and Jewish historical collections. Before joining JHSGH, she worked as a Digital Project Archivist with the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, where she helped build and describe the Ukraine Crisis Collection. She has also processed archival materials related to Jewish-American life during World War II.

Amanda is especially interested in how archives can help connect people with stories from the past, whether they are researchers, community members, or families exploring their own histories. Her work is rooted in making historical materials easier to find, understand, and use. She is thrilled to join the Jewish Historical Society and looks forward to helping preserve and share the many stories held in its collections.
