This exhibition explores the ways that Jewish communities in the Hartford area have connected with the Jewish homeland -– as both dream and reality -– from 1898 to the present. As Israel marks its 75th anniversary at a time of crisis, we reflect on what it has meant to different generations of Jews in Greater Hartford.

Jewish people in our area have celebrated Israel (or the idea of Israel), visited the country, raised funds in good times and bad, helped to defend Israel militarily, and even moved to Israel to contribute directly to its society. These connections and others have helped shape Jewish life in Hartford and in Israel alike.

On view from Monday, November 6 through Tuesday, November 21 at the Chase Gallery of the Mandell JCC of Greater Hartford.

Join us for an opening reception on November 6 at 7 PM.

The exhibition was funded by a grant for “Israel at 75” programs from the Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Hartford, with additional support from the Leshem Family Fund and from Constellation Community Champions.
