Adam Merritt played baseball for five years at Kingswood Oxford and is fond of calling it a life-changing experience. Chances are that his athletic ability and personal drive would have been life-changing no matter where he went to school or what sport he played. Still, there is no denying that Adam’s time at the West Hartford school was well motivated by the close mentorship of his Kingswood Oxford coaches, to whom he readily gives a lot of credit, and who, in turn, credit him with being among the most diligent ball players on the team.
The nimble right-fielder and powerhouse hitter is preparing for his freshman year at the University of Massachusetts, where he will study business and play Division I baseball. If hard work is in store, it is nothing with which Adam is unfamiliar. For the past few years at school, he participated in winter workouts, and in the summer traveled with the Connecticut Moose team. In addition to right field, he is a skilled pitcher with an impressive strikeout record.
At Kingswood he also played football and participated in indoor track. Adam is often called a leader on and off the field. He is as academically astute as he is athletically compelled, and calls math his favorite subject; he hints he may consider becoming a math educator. When asked what his personal goal is with any new season of sports, his go-to answer is to perform better than he did the previous season. No doubt that can be translated into all aspects of his life.
