Ari Klau

A few years ago, Ari Klau, formerly a software engineer, made the decision to get away from a desk and spend more of his time on a track. And on a bicycle. And in the water. It wasn’t long before he made the decision to quit his job to pursue the life of a triathlon competitor on a full-time basis. Currently he trains every day, for many hours a day, and has a growing number of followers who view his YouTube videos, all of which have something to do with his new career—the ups, the downs, the triumphs, the struggles—videos with such titles as “These Basic Nutrition Habits Transformed My Triathlon Performance,” “I Raced Back-to-Back 70.3’s. Here’s How They Went,” “Injury Update + A Few Other Things,” “This Wasn’t Part of the Plan…” and “I ate 3 POUNDS OF CARBS… and Had My Best Race Ever.”

Ari calls himself a “strug pro,” which he says is an unsponsored post-collegiate athlete chasing a dream on two feet and two wheels. A West Hartford native, Ari attended the Hebrew Academy in Bloomfield through the eighth grade. At Hall High School he was a standout runner, held several school and course records, and qualified for state and national championships. As a graduate student at the University of Virginia, which had recruited him, Ari set a school record for the indoor 3000-meter. He’s been on the move ever since.
