Jon Cohn may call Farmington home, but he feels at home at many other central Connecticut towns where his skill and dedication on behalf of coaching soccer has turned hundreds of boys into home-town heroes. His successful coaching career has spanned several decades at high schools in Manchester and Bloomfield, in addition to his notable role leading teams in the Maccabi games, one time in Israel in 2018, one time the following year in Mexico City, and most recently in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he led the team to a silver medal at the Pan American Maccabi Games. Jon has stated on numerous occasions that representing both his country and his faith is why the Maccabi games are so important to him. Closer to home he has been the head coach and regional training center director for the Connecticut Junior Soccer Association, which is committed to serve and educate membership through the development, promotion and administration of youth soccer throughout the state.
As much as he enjoys the game itself and the feeling of accomplishment mentoring enthusiastic young men and women (he has also been president of the Connecticut Girls High School Coaches Association), Jon has other interests that speak just as well to his character. One of the notable is his collaboration with an organization called Coaches United Against Cancer, whose St. Baldrick’s Day initiative finds Jon shaving his head every March to raise money and awareness for pediatric cancer.
