Social auxiliary groups like the womens’ Sisterhood and the mens’ Brotherhood have long been intrinsically involved in key aspects of synagogue life. The focus of such organizations has been to support social, educational, and cultural activities in the Jewish community and to serve as a fundraising resource for synagogues. Often these groups work in conjunction with youth groups, helping to sponsor and facilitate youth activities in synagogue life such as local community projects, recreational trips, and participation in special events and holiday celebrations.
