Delicious Memories: A Food Blog from the Jewish Historical Society of Greater Hartford

We want your Chanukah food stories!

As you celebrate the upcoming festival of lights with friends and family, have your cameras ready! The Jewish Historical Society will be starting a new food blog in 2018 - it will be a place for you to share your stories of meals and recipes with the community. Photos from the past or present are needed. These stories will provide future generations with a unique snapshot of Jewish life in Greater Hartford.

Here are some questions to think about:

  • Do you prefer your latkees with sour cream or with applesauce? Or both?
  • Do you grate the potatoes by hand or in the food processor?
  • Who makes the latkees in your family? Do you have a unique recipe or one for other vegetable latkees?
  • What foods do you eat with your latkees ? Any special Chanukah /latkee traditions?
  • Please send photos and stories to

Happy Chanukah from the staff at the Jewish Historical Society!

    About the Project

The Jewish Historical Society will be starting a blog on our website showcasing food stories, photos, and family recipes. To help us get started, we would like you to begin to gather favorite family recipes and the stories that go along with them. You may even have a treasured photo from past family meals. The holidays are a perfect time to have these conversations about favorite childhood dishes and the memories that are associated with them, knowing that you are also creating a legacy for the future. Food stories are a wonderful way to connect the generations. Once launched, our blog will allow you to look through our collection and easily add your own photo and text by filling out a simple form. Stay tuned for more information!
